at the Home of Vicki & Ian J Cohn
Upper East Side

This year, the Directors have charted a route that leads to numerous appellations of the Eastern Loire and a tasting that explores grape varietals rarely encountered as well as those well known.  While the “spiritual” center of the Chantepleure is found in the Touraine, where limestone-infused soils call for Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc to be planted, the geology of the Eastern Loire presents terroirs where the most widely planted and well-known grape varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.  Embedded within this region are several tiny appellations where several fascinating varietals can be found, and we will use this opportunity to explore both, the large and the small.

Come join a Director in his or her home for a tasting limited to 5 members, where we hope to unravel the mysteries of this region of the Loire.  The tasting will include a classic example of Sancerre Blanc and then, veering onto roads less travelled, a rosé fashioned from Pinot Gris in the Reuilly zone, a red made principally from Pinot Noir seasoned with dashes of Gamay and Cot in the Cheverny appellation, and finally a bonus late-harvest wine made from Romorantin, also grown in Cheverny.

Ground rules: Members only; No exceptions.
Sign up on a first-come, first-served basis.  Members are asked to sign up for a Director not visited in prior years tastings (otherwise, the application may be rejected).  Please advise of any accessibility or dietary concerns.  The home address of the Director will be provided at a later date.

Gerard Boulay, Sancerre “Chavignol” 2024
Domaine de Reuilly, Pinot Gris 2024
François Cazin, Cheverny Rouge 2023
François Cazin, Cour-Cheverny "Cuvée Renaissance" 2022

There is no charge to members for the tasting, but advance registration is essential.
